Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) has awarded global energy technology company SLB a five-year contract to provide integrated well stimulation and hydraulic fracturing services across oil and gas fields in Block 6, reinforcing efforts to improve production efficiency and maximise recovery from existing hydrocarbon resources.
The agreement, announced in SLB’s third-quarter financial results on October 23, covers advanced reservoir stimulation, well intervention, automated fracturing systems and digital technologies designed to enhance well productivity and reservoir performance.
The company has not disclosed the contract value, number of wells covered or specific fields where the services will be deployed.
The latest award strengthens the longstanding partnership between PDO and SLB, which has previously delivered hydraulic fracturing and stimulation services in the Sultanate.
In 2021, SLB, then operating as Schlumberger, secured a five-year agreement to provide high-pressure hydraulic fracturing and stimulation services for up to 350 wells in Oman, with options for two additional two-year extensions.
It remains unclear whether the newly announced contract replaces the previous arrangement or represents a separate programme.
The agreement follows another major investment in specialised oilfield services. In May 2026, PDO awarded Abraj Energy Services a five-year hydraulic fracturing contract valued at approximately OMR 120 million.
That agreement included additional fracturing capacity and expanded services for gas wells, reflecting continued investment in technologies that support upstream production.
Hydraulic fracturing is an established well stimulation technique used to improve the flow of oil and natural gas through underground rock formations, particularly in reservoirs where conventional extraction methods face technical challenges.
By combining advanced stimulation methods with automation and digital technologies, the latest contract is intended to improve reservoir contact, optimise well performance and support more efficient recovery.
The agreement also adds to SLB’s growing portfolio of projects in Oman.
Earlier in January 2026, the company secured two additional five-year contracts from PDO covering wellhead equipment and artificial lift technologies for Block 6.
These agreements included plans to manufacture wellheads at SLB’s Rusayl production facility and assemble electric submersible pumps at its Nizwa centre, c
The latest contract reflects PDO’s continued focus on deploying specialised technologies to improve the performance and productive life of its oil and gas assets.
As Oman seeks to maintain reliable hydrocarbon production while advancing its wider energy diversification objectives, technologies that improve operational efficiency and resource recovery remain important to the upstream sector.
The involvement of international technology providers alongside Omani service companies also highlights the role of technical partnerships, local expertise and advanced oilfield services in supporting the Sultanate’s energy industry.
The five-year agreement positions SLB to contribute further to PDO’s production optimisation efforts through integrated stimulation services and digitally enabled operations.
