Muscat, Oman: Oman’s total refinery production reached 149.96 million barrels during the first eight months of 2026, representing a 2.4% decline compared with the corresponding period in 2025, according to preliminary figures released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
Overall refinery output stood at 149,958,800 barrels, down from approximately 153.7 million barrels recorded during the same period last year. The decline was primarily driven by reduced diesel production and lower output across other refinery products, despite increased production of jet fuel, naphtha and petrol.
Diesel remained the largest refinery product category, although production declined by 6.4% to 50.34 million barrels, compared with 53.76 million barrels a year earlier. Domestic diesel sales increased by 1.1% to 13.81 million barrels, while exports decreased by 10.4% to 38.68 million barrels.
In contrast, jet fuel production recorded strong growth, increasing by 15.5% to 19.75 million barrels from 17.10 million barrels during the corresponding period of 2025. Jet fuel exports rose by 27.8% to 16.61 million barrels, while sales declined by 5% to 3.04 million barrels.
Petrol production registered a marginal increase of 0.7%, despite weaker sales across both regular and premium grades. Output of 91-octane petrol rose by 0.4% to 11.41 million barrels, while exports increased by 27.3% to 2.46 million barrels. However, sales declined by 9.1% to 10.86 million barrels.
Production of 95-octane petrol increased by 1.1% to 9.56 million barrels. Sales fell by 8.5% to 10.39 million barrels, while exports declined by 48.3% to 362,900 barrels.
Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) production decreased by 2.7% to 7.45 million barrels, compared with 7.65 million barrels in the previous year. LPG sales contracted by 20.7% to 2.02 million barrels, although exports increased by 5.4% to 2.40 million barrels.
Meanwhile, naphtha production increased by 5.1% to 26.20 million barrels, compared with 24.93 million barrels in 2025. Naphtha sales grew by 4.7% to 9.61 million barrels, while exports increased by 3.3% to 16.95 million barrels.
Production across other refinery products declined by 14.2% to 25.25 million barrels, down from 29.44 million barrels during the same period last year. Sales in this category decreased by 19.6% to 21.22 million barrels, while exports fell by 13.8% to 5.96 million barrels.
In the petrochemicals segment, benzene production increased by 1.8% to 123,200 metric tonnes, with exports rising by 1.6% to 121,000 metric tonnes. Paraxylene production also registered growth, increasing by 5.8% to 425,300 metric tonnes, although exports declined by 1.8% to 427,400 metric tonnes.
Polypropylene production recorded a sharper contraction, falling by 25.5% to 177,100 metric tonnes from 237,700 metric tonnes in the corresponding period of 2025. Despite the decline in production, polypropylene sales increased to 24,900 metric tonnes from 19,700 metric tonnes, while exports decreased by 12.4% to 149,100 metric tonnes.
The latest figures indicate mixed performance across Oman’s refining and petrochemical industries, with increased jet fuel and naphtha production partially offsetting declines in diesel, LPG and other refinery products during the first eight months of 2026.
