OPES 2026
PROJECT SHOWCASE SESSION
10-Year Artificial Lift Journey in 2400 PCP wells to Top-Quartile Performance in Oman and Across Shell Partner Operating CompaniesThis project chronicles a transformative decade-long journey managing 2,400 PCP wells, elevating operations to global top-quartile performance. Centered on a proactive "Failless Strategy," the team dramatically reduced the failure index to one-third while doubling the system MTBF. Technical enablers include innovative slim-hole pump geometries—detailed in the SPE paper SPE-232262-MS selected for OPES 2026—upgraded tubing materials (CR13/GRE and Polyline), and in-house PID and remote system optimization via ForeSite.
Beyond technical gains, the project has significantly enhanced HSE standards by reducing physical site interventions and well failure frequencies.
This strategy directly aligns with the Oman 2040 Vision, driving economic sustainability and operational efficiency through digitalization and local technical leadership. This achievement represents a continuous trajectory of excellence, building upon the team's legacy after being shortlisted as one of the featured projects at OPES 2025 Project Showcase Session at for the "Unique dual ram BOP design," underscoring a sustained commitment to delivering award-winning innovations in artificial lift.
Predictive Fleet Safety Management Using ADAS and AI Enabled Fatigue Monitoring Predictive Fleet Safety Management Using ADAS and AI Enabled Fatigue Monitoring was implemented at the PTTEP Onshore Sirikit Oil Field to address road safety risks following a Lost Time Injury in 2024. Driver fatigue and unsafe driving were identified as key contributors, particularly across long distance transportation operations. The project integrates Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) with AI based fatigue monitoring to enable proactive risk detection and intervention.
The system was deployed across 134 light vehicles and 50 crude road-tankers, covering more than 50,000 kilometers of daily operations. Real time in vehicle alerts are linked to a centralized monitoring center, allowing safety personnel to verify risks and take timely action, including rest management, journey adjustment, and STOP WORK authority when necessary.
Following full deployment in 2025, the initiative achieved a 36% reduction in overall road incidents and zero high severity incidents. Improved driving behavior also delivered benefits in fuel efficiency, emission reduction, and sustainable fleet performance.
